It’s time to begin planting your beautiful garden full of delicious fruits and veggies, and your gorgeous assortment of flowers, and let’s not forget that beautiful green lawn of yours. Wait! So your veggies and fruits aren’t looking as delicious as they do in the pictures on Pinterest (or in the store), and your flowers, well, they’re there, and the lawn, a little brown? OK, well, let me simplify it just a bit …. You’re in need of fertilizer.

Basically, in order for plants, grass, fruit, veggies, trees, etc. to grow and look beautiful they need several things, some of which Mother Nature provides, others, you’re going to have to get on your own.

Here are the Top 5 Reasons you need organic liquid fertilizer:

#5: Your plants are like people – they need food, water and protection to survive.

#4: You have a lower chance of “burning” your plants. Although the plant doesn’t know the difference between conventional and organic fertilizer (because it just knows that it’s getting nitrogen, not the source of the nitrogen), using organic fertilizer lowers your chance of burning your plants, leaving you a beautiful green lawn, flourishing flowers, and totally tasty fruits and veggies!

#3. You will save time, money, and most importantly – our environment. Think about the time and money you’ll save by properly feeding and nourishing your plants, rather than planting, not fertilizing, then digging up dead plants just to turn around and buy new seeds and plants then turning around and replanting everything – whew! Just thinking about the work is exhausting! Well, you could always throw in the hat and not replant, but then you’ve got that ugly brown lawn and lots of holes from the plants you had to dig up. I can just hear the president of your home owners association now, or your neighbors gossiping, either way, it doesn’t look pretty on your land, and it won’t be pretty explaining yourself to your neighbors.

#2. It’s super easy – just point and shoot, well, feed, actually.

#1: It’s what plants crave! Mother Nature has plenty of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen for your plants; however, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are what plants need the most of, and this, my friend, is the most important reason that you need fertilizer because these are just some of the nutrients that fertilizer provides. The sad part is that without nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, your plant simply can’t grow – the good news is that you can properly feed your plants by fertilizing them.

So stop thinking of yourself as the “black thumb” or the place where plants go to die and take action! Check out our latest feature product – Agriburst organic fertilizer – which is an organic liquid fertilizer and only $9.95 for one 22 oz. bottle or $14.95 for two from the myBIGearth Store!

Happy Gardening!

As an eco-conscious college student I am constantly explaining to friends why I choose certain products. Why would I spend extra bucks to take shots of organic vodka instead of the cheap crap behind the bar? They even raise an eyebrow at the site of my lunchbox, filled with organic fruits and vegetables, instead of the Red Bull and granola bar in theirs. We all know that my pockets aren’t filled with extra cash so why would I risk being broke just to hear the crunch of a local, organic, honeycrisp apple?

Watching the highlights of the FORTUNE Brainstorm Green Conference I was reminded why spending a couple cents more for organic is so important. Gary Hirshberg, Chairman of Stonyfield Farm, sums it up like this, “the organic industry is a 29 billion dollar industry due to the power of individual consumers.” At the same time Duncan Mac Naughton, Chief Merchandising Officer for Walmart, brought the group of sustainable power heads back to earth by reminding us that people will make their purchases solely on what they are willing to pay for.

So let’s think again about my daily struggle to justify why a poor college student would “throw away” a couple of dollars just to support organic agriculture. Why do products end up on store shelves? Why do products leave store shelves? I may have only taken a single economics class during my first year in college but I do understand the laws of supply and demand.

I look at grocery shopping, bar hopping, and stocking up on the latest trends as my opportunity to vote. Every time that card swipes through the machine I’m casting my vote. I’m choosing to invest a little more in hopes that I will increase the demand for organic and sustainable products. I may only be one person but as Mr. Hirshberg said, it’s the power of individual consumers that helps to sustain this incredible organic industry.

Watching the FORTUNE Brainstorm Green Conference, I was amazed what businesses like Stonyfield and Google are doing in order to reduce their carbon footprint. These large companies are investing in sustainable practices from a corporate standpoint but their efforts will be lost if there isn’t a demand for the products and practices they create. We can sit here and applaud them for the incredible things they are trying to do but without our vote their efforts can only go so far.

As Mr. Hirshberg said, when he started making his yogurt the organic sugar was double the price. He only had seven cows to make this yogurt. Sure, people probably looked at him the same way they look at me. But what do we have in common? Hirshberg and I won’t settle for products that aren’t quality.

The next time you spend a few bucks consider what you’re investing in. What products and companies will you vote for?

So maybe you’ve checked out our myBIGearth.com site, or “liked” us on Facebook, follow our Tweets, added us to your Google+ circle, and maybe even follow some of our boards on Pinterest (THANKS for that)– but WHO is myBIGearth? Well, to be honest, I really had no idea either until I was contacted by them to be the social media manager and news editor. So I figured I’d explain who we are and what we do … because I have to admit, this company is truly amazing and for the past few weeks I’ve been more inspired than I’ve been for a long time (and sometimes I’m not the friendliest person, so that’s truly a HUGE deal)!

Well, first of all – we’re all about charity and being the voice for so many children, homeless, and jobless Americans who go unheard everyday. We’ve partnered with several distributors that we work with to get products which we sell on our myBIGearth Store, and 40% of the profit goes to charity. Yes, you read that right – FORTY PERCENT (I figured I’d spell it out so you didn’t think it was a typo)! 20% supports homeless and orphaned children and the additional 20% goes to support innovators and job creation.

OK, I know what you’re thinking “Well, if they’re giving THAT much away, the prices must be OUTRAGEOUS?!” Well, I don’t know if you’re thinking that, but I sure did when the President and Founder of myBIGearth, Stacey Stockman, told me that. But I checked out the store and realized, she wasn’t “yanking my chain” the prices are the same if not better than anywhere else AND the products are awesome!!! The variety offers you the opportunity to become a part of the solution simply by buying what you’d already would have bought somewhere else … while knowing that 40% of the profits of each sale go to help kids and job creation.

But “what about job creation, how is myBIGearth helping get American’s back to work?” Well, not only do we provide money to shelters (through your donations and purchases) but we also exhibit and assist with Career Fairs. Just this month, Stacey Stockman, our busy Founder and President, attended a career fair held by California State Senator Kevin De Leon in Los Angeles. myBIGearth was invited among a group of 30 employers to help those in the inner cities of LA with their career transition needs and ultimately help get Americans back to work.

MyBIGearth has been around since 2004, but they didn’t go live with their online presence until April 22, 2011, yep, that’s Earth Day … really, could you think of a better time

for myBIGearth to makes its debut? So that’s right, we’re celebrating our 2nd anniversary on Earth Day! And we’re taking our “Compassion in Action” program to the next level. The “Compassion in Action” program has resulted in myBIGearth working

with over 700 homeless shelters nationwide, as well as villages in the remote regions around the world by providing food, shelter and even toys to children in need.

But we need your help, word of mouth is very powerful and we need your help to

spread the word about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it! Please check out our site at www.mybigearth.com and see what we’re all about and open up your hearts and help us fight for those who can’t.

In an effort to help those in career transition, myBIGearth recently participated in the Los Angeles “Spring Jubilee.” With a special guest appearances from California State Senator Kevin De Leon, even torrential rains could not dampen the spirits of the more than 600 job seekers in attendance. myBIGearth was fortunate to be invited among a group of 30 employers to help those in the inner cities of LA with their career transition needs and get Americans back to work.
